Job summary

Mclaurin Aerospace is seeking an HLS IVA Insight Project Engineer to join the NASA Johnson Space Center-based JETS II team in Houston, TX. You will design, develop, test, and certify spacesuit-related hardware for spaceflight and work closely with stakeholders to ensure mission success.

The role requires a solid engineering background, experience with Crew Survival Systems and IVA/EVA suits, and the ability to prepare technical documentation and present at design reviews.

Qualifications

• Requires engineering degree with 5–10 years of related experience or PhD with 0 years experience.
• Experience with Crew Survival Systems and IVA/EVA suit development is desired.
• Ability to develop and verify requirements and understand space hardware].
• Proficient in mechanical and electrical design, drawings, materials, and design tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication; proficient with MS Office and exposure to JSC processes.

Responsibilities

• Support design, development, testing, and certification of spacesuit hardware for spaceflight.
• Create safety products to show requirement compliance and mission readiness.
• Prepare and present content for design reviews with the HLS program.

HLS IVA Insight Project Engineer to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If Selected You Will

• Support the project in designing, developing, testing and certifying spacesuit-related hardware for spaceflight application.
• Creating safety products relevant to hardware to show requirement compliance and mission.
• Be an active participant in preparing and presenting content for design reviews with the HLS program.
• Lead/support any related team meetings or program meetings.
• Working with other project team members to ensure project requirements are achieved.
• Keep relevant program stakeholders abreast of project development and operational status.
• Shall provide statuses, schedule, and forward work information to ensure all necessary project objectives and milestones are being accomplished on time and within program/project resources.
• Support IVA Suit Project Manager in integration and discussions with external orgs including Flight Operations Directorate (FOD), Crew Office (CB), Engineering Directorate (EA) and Crew Training representatives.
• Support IVA Suit Project Manager in the managing of the project's Technical, Schedule, Cost and Risk as needed.
• Maintain a responsive and productive working relationship with HLS program personnel and any vendor or subcontractors.
• Project Engineer will support PM who leads and provide weekly statuses to the HLS program, working actions given by program (as needed) and presenting at program forums for items such as hardware certification, project status, and or risks.
• Travelling to support project meetings, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), development efforts, qualification (certification) testing, failure investigations or technical issues, crew training activities and other critical project tasks are all responsibilities for this position.
• Work in a team environment and report to project management to provide status on progress and issues related to support of the HLS IVA Suit project.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

• Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.
• Accredited engineering school and four (4) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degree and zero (0) years direct engineering experience.
• Experience with Crew Survival Systems
• Experience with IVA or EVA Suit development and operation
• Experience with the development of requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria
• Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of Space system hardware. Prior experience in pressure, oxygen systems, suit systems would be considered a bonus
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools
• Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
• Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NASA flight processes including Class I/II/III hardware
• Have a working knowledge of systems engineering topics, including verification and validation
• Previous experience in designing and building unique hardware
• Previous testing experience
• Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process.
• Ability to perform hands on test buildup, data processing, and documentation including test plans and reports
• Ability to work independently
• Exposure to human factors engineering
• Exposure to safety processes and risk management techniques
