Job summary

Donor Network of Arizona is seeking a part-time HLA Technologist to join the 24/7 HLA laboratory in Tempe. You will perform ABO and donor histocompatibility testing, manage testing workflows, and ensure timely initial typing.

The role requires five years' histocompatibility or immunology lab experience, a relevant degree, and CHS (ACHI) certification; on-call shifts include evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Doctoral/masters/bachelors in lab science or medical technology per ASHI criteria.
• Minimum five years of testing experience in accredited Histocompatibility/immunology labs.
• Active CHS (ACHI) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Participates in ABO and donor histocompatibility testing management, performance, and evaluation.
• Determines donor HLA and ABO initial typing within established turnaround times.
• Perform HLA typing using Real-Time PCR methods.
• Maintain routine lab equipment and assist with QC/QA activities.
• Participates in transplant on-call rotation.

About the HLA Technologist

• Participates in all aspects of ABO and donor histocompatibility testing including test management, performance, and evaluation.
• Determines donor’s HLA and ABO initial typing within a pre-determined turnaround time.
• HLA Typing using Real-Time PCR method.
• Routine equipment maintenance.
• Assists with quality control and quality assurance.
• Participates in transplant on-call rotation.

Note: This is a part-time position, meaning the employee will work on an as-needed basis. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary depending on operational requirements. This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexibility or supplemental income. Schedule: Part-time (as needed, flexible hours). Donor Network of Arizona's HLA laboratory is a 24/7 operation. Shift: Varies based on department needs, including weekends and holidays. Must be available for on-call requirement from 6PM-8:30 AM, 7 days per week. 3-5 shifts minimum required per month.

Requirements

• Minimum Education: Meets current state, federal and other regulatory agency (ASHI) educational/experience requirements: doctoral, master’s or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
• At least five years’ experience testing in accredited Histocompatibility or Immunological lab.
• Active CHS (ACHI) certification required.
