Job description

The Regional Medical Scientific Director (RMSD), Virology, is a credentialed (MD, PhD, PharmD, or DNP) therapeutic and disease area expert responsible for engaging in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators in the medical community. RMSDs provide factual, scientific information about non-product areas related to Virology (HIV), respond to scientific questions, and facilitate relationships with scientific leaders to support our research initiatives. They support data generation activities, including sponsored trials and investigator-initiated studies, as directed by R&D leadership.

Location

This is a REMOTE position; candidates must reside in the specified territory (South Florida: Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Miami). Up to 50% travel, including overnight stays, is required.

Primary Responsibilities :

  1. Engage in scientific exchange and research support with external scientific leaders and investigators.
  2. Provide balanced, factual scientific information about non-product areas related to the company’s interests, especially in HIV.
  3. Develop and maintain peer-level relationships with scientific leaders and investigators.
  4. Support data generation activities, including sponsored trials and investigator studies.
  5. Report to the RMSD Team Leader within US Medical Affairs, Global Clinical Development, R&D Division.
  6. Identify and manage relationships with scientific leaders and investigators to address scientific needs and facilitate access to medical and scientific information.
  7. Conduct peer-level scientific discussions, maintain scientific presence, and engage in non-product scientific issues to inform company strategy.
  8. Represent the company at scientific meetings, congresses, and in post-event discussions.
  9. Develop territory plans aligned with global therapeutic strategies.
  10. Support investigator-initiated research and identify potential investigators for clinical programs.
  11. Provide scientific support to Health Systems Teams within US Medical Affairs.
  12. Maintain in-depth knowledge of disease and therapeutic areas through continuous education.
  13. Ensure compliance with policies, laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

Education Minimum Requirements :

Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, or DNP) relevant to the disease area and position requirements.

Required Experience and Skills :

  • Experience in Virology, especially HIV/AIDS.
  • At least 3 years in biotech/pharma/healthcare, with 3+ years in clinical/research in relevant disease areas.
  • Or, if clinical/research experience is less, >5 years of Medical Scientific Liaison experience in a relevant TA.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% and reside within the territory.
  • Deep therapeutic expertise and awareness of trends in the field.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, interpret results, and synthesize information.
  • Knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, FDA regulations, and ethical standards.

Preferred Skills :

  • Recognition for scientific excellence in the relevant TA.
  • Experience in clinical practice and independent research/publications in the TA.
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience (MSL or similar) in the relevant TA.
  • Existing relationships with stakeholders in the geography.
  • Leadership skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
