Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus, OH is seeking a Histotechnologist to perform processing, embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissue specimens for evaluation by Pathologists. You will also conduct quality control and prepare specialized stains as needed.

The role requires keen attention to detail, excellent manual dexterity, and experience with histology techniques, cryostats, microtomes, and automated staining systems. 24 hours per week with variable shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • HT Histotechnician Registered (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process specimens and ensure proper accessioning and labeling.
  • Assist in sectioning frozen sections as needed.
  • Embed surgical, autopsy and research specimens with correct orientation.
  • Cut 2–4 micron tissue sections with a microtome and ensure adequate productivity.
  • Perform routine and special stains and prepare solutions.
  • Cover slips using automated instruments and QA steps.
  • File slides and blocks for future reference and refer to off-site consultations as required.
  • Perform Bone Marrow, Immunohistochemistry, and leukemia stain procedures as needed.
  • Participate in research and development of new procedures.
