Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Histology/Cytology Manager or General Lab Management, Wellstar Health System Laboratory, and direct supervision of the Histotechnology Supervisor or Lab Manager, the Histologic Technologist is responsible for the complete preparation of all routine surgicals, autopsy tissues including frozen sections, sendout procedures, processing, cutting, staining, and coverslipping. Also performs cytology preparation, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry (antibody optimizing and validation), and has general knowledge of techniques, principles, instrumentation, and troubleshooting abilities. Confirms and distributes completed surgical cases and reports, manages clerical duties involving filing, retrieving tumor and consult requests, and maintains full knowledge of regulatory policies.
