Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a histology technician to prepare human tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation. The role involves processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and slide labeling under Pathologist supervision.

You will ensure QC standards, trouble-shoot instrumentation, and adapt processing for special cases while supporting routine and non-routine procedures. Prior histology experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent per CLIA standards.
  • National certification in Histology by ASCP or eligible.
  • Knowledge of histochemistry and processing techniques for tissue specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation.
  • Section and stain slides; mount and label for Pathologist review.
  • Monitor and maintain quality control standards; trouble-shoot as needed.
  • Operate tissue processor and adjust protocols for special processing.
  • Evaluate effects of processing on samples and determine timely alternatives.
  • Assist in evaluating new products or procedures as requested by manager.
  • Perform duties including frozen sections, dye preparation, and related tasks.
