Job summary

Emory Medical Laboratory in Atlanta, GA is seeking a certified Histotechnologist III to support Emory Healthcare’s mission across clinical care, education and research. The role requires HTL (ASCP) certification, five years of experience, and a supervisory capacity is preferred.

You will perform routine and complex histology, supervise staff when needed, participate in research projects, and ensure quality control and safety in all lab activities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required or higher; Bachelor's preferred but not required.
• Five years of relevant experience with supervisor/lead experience preferred.
• Certification HTL (ASCP) or HT(ASCP) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine or complex histologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment.
• Provides exemplary customer service throughout preanalytical, analytical and post-analytical processes.
• Serves as a technical resource for less experienced staff and may supervise a section of the department.
• Assists in research projects.
• May accession tissue specimens and prepare specimens for fixation.
• Embeds and sections specimens using a microtome and prepares slides.
• Maintains control block and slide references for special studies.
• Prepares fixatives and staining solutions per procedures.
• May perform frozen section microtomy.
• Operates precision lab instruments and conducts preventive maintenance.
• Evaluates new instruments and troubleshoots equipment issues.
• Assists with policy/procedure development and inventory management.
• Leads staff and provides input on performance; assists in scheduling.
• Maintains safety standards and documentation; participates in quality control.
