Job summary

Lee Health's Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers is seeking a Histology Technician to perform moderate and high complexity histology procedures on patient specimens and quality control materials. You will prepare slides, assist in data collection, and support pathologists and supervisors with findings during night shift.

Qualifications

• Education: 2–4 years of formal education beyond high school with an associate, bachelor’s, or certificate in lab science.
• License: Clinical Laboratory Technologist (TN) or Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (SU) required.

Responsibilities

• Perform histology procedures on patient specimens and quality control material.
• Maintain documentation of quality control data and instrument usage.
• Operate and maintain instruments per manufacturer guidelines and dept. policies.
• Provide good customer service across the health system to nurses, physicians, patients, and colleagues.

Shift: Shift 3/11:00:00 PM to 7:30:00 AM

Minimum to Midpoint Pay Rate:$27.48 - $34.36 / hour

Summary

Performs moderate and high complexity Histology procedures on patient specimens and quality control material to provide slides and data to assist in the diagnosis and/or treatment of disease. May perform non-physician gross examinations and/or high complexity staining procedures as required by location or shift. Demonstrates sound decisions making skills when evaluating quality control results, checking abnormal or unexpected results for accuracy. Seeks guidance from pathologist or supervisor when appropriate. Operates and maintains instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and departmental policies and procedures. Documents all quality control data. Participates in section activities involving quality assessment and improvement, research and development of new procedures, and training and orientation of new employees. Effectively communicates and demonstrates good customer service throughout the health system to include nursing staff, physicians, patients, co-workers and other Lee Health customer and employees.

Requirements

Education:Two to four years of formal education or training beyond high school and Associate degree, Bachelors degree, or certificate in laboratory science from an accredited institution required. Experience may be substituted for education as described by State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Statutes. Education/ training qualifications to perform non-physician gross examinations as described in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Anatomic Pathology Checklist requirement ANP.11610 and CLIA regulations required.
