Responsibilities

• Prepare unstained and H&E stained slides from tissue blocks.
• Operate microtome, water bath, automated stainer, coverslipper, processors, embedding centers.
• Determine block orientation, knife angles, and settings for representative sections.
• Maintain specimen identification and track work in the LIMS.
• Cut frozen sections with a cryostat and stain for review by pathologists.
• Collaborate with pathologists and lab coordinators on slide quality.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and follow safety requirements.
• Work independently and deliver high-quality finished products.
• Communicate workflow needs with histology team and other groups.

What You’ll Do

• Preparation of both unstained and routine hematoxylin and eosin stained slides from formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue blocks
• Utilize microtome, water bath, automated stainer, automated coverslipper , tissue processors, and embedding centers
• Determine appropriate block orientation and alignment, knife angles, and settings to obtain representative sections
• Maintain specimen integrity through proper identification of samples, slides and folders
• Cut frozen sections using a cryostat, stain samples for pathologists to review
• Collaborate with in-house pathologists and pathology lab coordinators for slide quality review
• Track work completed using a custom Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Maintain laboratory equipment and record maintenance regularly
• Approach work with safety and diligence and follow safety requirements of the laboratory
• Perform routine workflows without direct guidance
• Reliably produce quality finished products
• Work collaboratively with other members of the Histology team to accomplish daily cutting and staining deadlines
• Communicate effectively with pathologists, members of the histology team, and other associated teams as relates to workflow needs
• Seek assistance from the lead, supervisor, and/or manager when problems or mistakes arise
• Report issues with instrumentation, samples, or the lab itself in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications

Illinois Pay: $33.75/hour

The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
