Job summary

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, part of BJC HealthCare, is hiring a Full-Time Histotechnologist in the Surgical Pathology Department in St. Louis County. The role involves performing microtomy, embedding and staining, with duties including QC and instrument maintenance. A 1-year histology background and HTL-ASCP certification are preferred.

Qualifications

  • HTL-ASCP or equivalent certification required/preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of experience preferred in histology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation and procedure validation.
  • Prepare and document quality controls; troubleshoot instrumentation as needed.
  • Assist supervisor with maintaining quality plan, procedure manuals, variance management, interdepartmental functionality, and policies.
  • Understand test principles, maintenance and operation of instrumentation in assigned areas.
  • Utilize critical thinking to perform tasks and responsibilities.
  • May train to perform tissue gross examination as needed (High Complexity CLIA).

Sign-On Bonus (for eligible applicants)
Position Details:
  • Day Shift Hours: (Mon-Fri) with a Set Start Time of 5:00 AM
  • Flexible schedule! 4 or 5 days per week at 10 or 8-hour shifts starting at 5:00am
  • Possible Weekend Rotation
Requirements:
  • HTL (ASCP) or equivalent Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose

Responsible for providing a variety of routine and/or complex tests and procedures on tissue and related surgical specimens submitted for histological examination.

Responsibilities
  • Tasks to include, but not limited to, microtomy, embedding, staining, reagent preparation and procedure validation. Performs, prepares, and documents quality controls for all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary.
  • May assist supervisor in maintaining quality plan, procedure manual, variance management, interdepartmental functionality, and writing policies/procedures.
  • Understands test principles, theory, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of all instrumentation in assigned areas.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to perform above tasks and responsibilities.
  • Trained to perform tissue gross examination as needed. (Must meet the High Complexity qualifications as written in CLIA 42CFR493)
