Job summary

Hartford HealthCare in Manchester, CT seeks a Histotechnologist to perform tissue processing and slide preparation for pathologists. You will embed tissue, stain slides, and maintain equipment in a fast-paced histology lab.

The role requires precise data entry and adherence to SOPs to ensure accurate results. Responsibilities include specimen handling, QC, instrument troubleshooting, and meeting turnaround times.

Qualifications

• Twelve (12) months of histology training preferred.
• ASCP registered or eligible preferred.
• At least one (1) year of clinical histology experience.
• One year of histology experience preferred.
• Must be able to read, speak and write English.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens according to procedures in the gross area and verify patient demographics.
• Perform tissue embedding and proper patient identification throughout processing.
• Prepare slides and stains according to SOP.
• Maintain equipment and reagents per maintenance schedules and document upkeep.
• Troubleshoot equipment and procedures and demonstrate working knowledge of functions.
• Perform Quality Control according to established procedures.
• Meet or exceed quality guidelines and turnaround times established by pathologists.

Job Summary

The Histotechnologist performs the various procedures employed to generate microscopic slides for our Pathologists.

• Processes specimens according to identified procedures in the gross area. Properly identifies patients throughout the accessioning process. Enters and verifies correct patient demographic information from the requisition.
• Performs tissue embedding. Properly identifies patients throughout process.
• Prepares slides and stains according to SOP.
• Maintains equipment and reagents as identified on maintenance schedules.
• Documents for all equipment maintenance.
• Troubleshoots equipment and procedures and demonstrates a good working knowledge of equipment functions.
• Performs Quality Control according to established procedures.
• Meets or exceeds the quality guidelines and turnaround times as established by our Pathologists

Qualifications

• Twelve (12) months of training in an approved and accredited school of histology is preferred.
• American Society of Clinical Pathologists registered or eligible preferred.
• At least one (1) year of clinical histology experience.
• Have at least one (1) year of histology experience preferred.
• Must be able to read, speak and write using the English language.
