Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a life science field is required.
  • 90 semester hours of coursework meeting federal clinical lab standards acceptable.
  • Knowledge of histology lab procedures including tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy.
  • Ability to work safely with biological specimens and lab chemicals.
  • Proficiency with lab computer systems and data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tissue embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, special staining, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Prepare, process, and evaluate surgical pathology, cytology, and autopsy specimens.
  • Cut paraffin blocks at 5-6 microns using a microtome while maintaining productivity standards.
  • Embed specimens into paraffin blocks with a target productivity of ~30 blocks/hour.
  • Perform quality control checks on reagents, reagents, staining processes, and equipment.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain histology equipment (tissue processors, microtomes, embedding stations, staining instruments).
  • Use LIS and computer applications for tracking, data entry, and documentation.
