Job summary

Johns Hopkins Health System is seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnologist at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. You will prepare tissue specimens, perform embedding, microtomy, H&E and IHC stains, and ensure high-quality slides for diagnostic review.

The role requires safe lab practices, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with QA compliance. On-site schedule, with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent training in life sciences with clinical lab exposure.
  • Knowledge of histology workflows including processing, embedding, and microtomy.
  • Ability to work safely with specimens and chemicals; attention to detail.
  • Experience with LIS and data entry in a fast-paced lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tissue embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, special stains, and IHC.
  • Process and evaluate surgical pathology, cytology, and autopsy specimens.
  • Cut paraffin blocks at 5-6 microns with a microtome; maintain productivity.
  • Embed specimens with high-quality block creation; target ~30 blocks/hour.
  • Conduct QC on reagents, stains, tissue preps and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain histology equipment; troubleshoot as needed.
  • Use LIS for tracking, data entry, and documentation; monitor equipment.
  • Prepare tissue processors for overnight processing and monitor performance.
  • Handle infectious specimens and chemicals per Universal Precautions.
  • Maintain records and ensure regulatory/QA compliance.
