Job summary

Ochsner Health seeks a Histology Technologist to receive, process, and prepare surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens for microscopic examination. You will assist pathologists and residents in gross dissection and staining, embed tissues, and maintain QC documentation.

The role requires a high school diploma, with preferred associates in biology/chemistry and ASCP HT certification. Strong attention to detail, data entry skills, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced lab environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree with Biology/Chemistry coursework preferred.
• ASCP Histotechnician (HT) certification preferred or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Process surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens for tissue processing and microscopic examination.
• Assist pathologists and residents in gross dissection and staining procedures.
• Maintain documentation and QC logs for reagents, controls, and equipment.
• Prepare slides, embed tissues, and ensure proper labeling and surface planes.
• Coordinate with pathology staff to manage workload and meet 24-hour turnaround targets.
