Unio Health Partners is seeking a Histotechnician II for a per diem role in Pasadena, CA. The candidate will prepare tissue specimens for examination by pathologists and researchers, performing tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control with precision.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a science field (or AS/AA in science/chemistry) with 5+ years in an anatomic pathology lab, and ASCP HT/HTL certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master’s degree in a scientific/chemistry field, or AS/AA in science or chemistry.
• Five years of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining.
• ASCP Histotechnician (HT) / HTL certification (preferred).
• Knowledge of CDPH, CLIA, CAP, and state/federal laws in moderate to high complexity labs.
• Knowledge of histological techniques, staining methods, and laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

• Accession, gross, process, embed, and cut blocks of pathology specimens.
• Participate in daily routine operation of the histology lab.
• Troubleshoot histology equipment and report issues to supervisor.
• Maintain daily records and equipment maintenance logs per CAP/CLIA.
• Check all work for accuracy and quality.
• Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Histotech II is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for examination by pathologists, researchers, and other medical professionals. This role involves precision work in histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and quality control. Histotechnicians play a vital role in assisting in the diagnosis and research of diseases.

What you will be doing

• Assume timely and accurate responsibility for the accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, and cutting blocks of all pathology specimens.
• Assume responsibility for daily participation in the routine operation of the histology laboratory as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
• Assume responsibility for troubleshooting histology equipment and ability to communicate problems to the laboratory supervisor.
• Maintains daily records and equipment maintenance logs as required by CAP/CLIA regulations and policies.
• Checks all work for accuracy and quality.
• Data entry for Vital Access Lab information system.

What you will bring to the team

• Bachelor or Master's degree in a scientific/chemistry field, or AS/AA in science or chemistry.
• Five years of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining.
• Licensing and Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Histotechnician (HT) (HTL) Histotechnician certification (preferred)
• Knowledge of CDPH, CLIA, CAP, and State and Federal laws that apply to the duties of this position in a moderate to high complexity laboratory.
• Knowledge of histological techniques, staining methods, and laboratory equipment.
