Job summary

Unio Health Partners (UHP) seeks a Histotechnician (HT) to embed, cut, stain, and prepare GI/GU tissue samples for pathologists. You will prioritize testing, maintain records, and operate microscopes, microtomes, and related equipment in a CA-based lab.

The role requires HT program graduate, AS/AA or Bachelor’s in science, and 1–2 years in an anatomic pathology setting, with travel as needed. Competitive benefits and a collaborative environment are offered.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited Histotechnology (HT) program.
  • 1–2 years experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining.

Responsibilities

  • Tissue processing: identify and label tissue specimens; fix and process tissues; embed in paraffin.
  • Microtomy: cut thin tissue sections and mount on slides.
  • Staining and dyeing: perform H&E staining and IHC as needed.
  • Quality control: maintain QC procedures and instrument calibration.
  • Laboratory safety: follow safety protocols for hazardous materials.
  • Documentation: record procedures and results accurately.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Histotechnician (HT) is responsible for embedding, cutting, staining and preparing GI and/or GU tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner and maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Use automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes and other lab equipment. The Histotech (HT) is responsible for embedding, cutting, staining and preparing GI and/or GU tissue samples for the pathologist to review. They are also responsible for prioritizing testing procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner and maintaining proper accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations. Use automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes and other lab equipment.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 2pm - 10:30pm
What you will be doing
  • Tissue Processing:
    • Receive tissue specimens and ensure proper identification and labeling.
    • Process tissue samples using various fixation and processing techniques.
    • Embed tissue specimens in paraffin wax or other embedding media.
  • Microtomy:
    • Use microtomes to cut thin tissue sections (histological slides) of consistent thickness.
    • Mount tissue sections onto slides for further analysis.
  • Staining and Dyeing:
    • Perform staining techniques, including routine H&E (Hematoxylin and Eosin) staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry (IHC).
    • Ensure proper staining procedures to highlight specific cellular structures or abnormalities.
  • Quality Control:
    • Maintain strict quality control procedures to ensure accurate results.
    • Perform routine instrument maintenance and calibration.
  • Laboratory Safety:
    • Adhere to laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous chemicals and biological materials.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Documentation:
    • Document all procedures, results, and relevant information accurately and comprehensively.
    • Maintain organized records and databases.
What you will bring to the team
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific/chemistry field, or AS/AA in science or chemistry.
  • Graduate of accredited Histotechnology (HT) program
  • 1-2 years experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory with gross, embedding, cutting, staining
  • Knowledge of CDPH, CLIA, CAP, and State and Federal laws that apply to the duties of this position in a moderate to high complexity laboratory
Travel Requirements
  • Periodic travel may be necessary.
