UPMC is seeking a dedicatedHistotechnicianorHistotechnologistto join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This full-time position is perfect for someone passionate about contributing to life-changing medicine in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Position Details:

• Shift: Daylight shiftswith variable start times between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.,Monday through Friday.
• Location:Clinical Lab Building in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

• Applicants will be placed in the appropriate role (Histotechnician or Histotechnologist) and salary level based on experience and education.
• The Histotechnologist role starts at$24.32 per hour.

UPMC is currently offering a generous sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists!

Responsibilities:

• Understands CoPath related to Histology workflow.
• Progresses towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
• Performs QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
• Processes and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
• Embeds and cuts specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
• Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.
• Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
• Maintains instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
• Performs additional tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.
