Job summary

Silver Cross Hospital in Illinois is seeking a Histotechnologist/HTL to prepare tissue samples for routine histology and assist pathologists with IHC and special stains. The role involves operating lab equipment, maintaining inventory, and ensuring privacy and safety standards in the Anatomic Pathology department.

Registry employees are not applicable here. Competitive hourly pay ranges from $25.92 to $32.40, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA, PTO, and a 401(k)

Qualifications

• IHC experience is preferred
• HTL/HT certification required or eligible to sit for exam within 1 year
• Experience in anatomic pathology practices preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques
• Routine techniques include: Fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining
• Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens
• Performs IHC, Special Stains
• Operates and troubleshoots departmental automation
• Maintains inventory at appropriate levels
• Accessions specimen on arrival in Histology laboratory
• Promotes a clean and safe environment of care following SAFE habits
• Ensures privacy and confidentiality per Standards of Conduct
• Other duties as assigned for proper functioning of histology lab

Summary

Prepares surgical and autopsy specimens for gross and microscopic examination. Assists pathologists with special procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques
• Routine techniques include: Fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining
• Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens
• Performs IHC, Special Stains
• Operates and troubleshoots departmental automation
• Assists in maintaining inventory at appropriate levels
• Accessions specimen upon arrival in Histology laboratory
• Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits
• Provides the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the Standards of Conduct
• Other duties as assigned that pertain to proper functioning of the histology lab

Required Qualifications

Histotechnologist, HTL(ASCP) or Histotechnician, HT (ASCP) certifications required or must be eligible to sit for the exam. ASCP certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire IHC experience strongly preferred

Pay

The expected pay for this position is listed below: $25.92 - $32.40. The final pay rate offered may be more than the posted range based on several factors including but not limited to: licensure, certifications, work experience, education, knowledge, demonstrated abilities, internal equity, market data, and more.
