Job summary

Silver Cross Hospital is seeking a qualified Histotechnologist/Histotechnician to prepare surgical and autopsy tissue for gross and microscopic examination. The role supports pathologists with standard histology, IHC, and special stains, while handling automation and inventory in a busy ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY lab.

Required HT/HTL(ASCP) certification or eligibility; IHC experience preferred. Day shift; full-time placement with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) or Histotechnician HT(ASCP) certification required or eligible to sit for the exam.
• ASCP certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• IHC experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques.
• Techniques include fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining.
• Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens.
• Performs IHC and special stains as required.
• Operates and troubleshoots departmental automation.
• Maintains inventory at appropriate levels.
• Accessions specimens upon arrival in Histology laboratory.
• Promotes a clean, safe environment and upholds patient privacy standards.
• Other duties as assigned for proper lab functioning.

Summary:

Prepares surgical and autopsy specimens for gross and microscopic examination. Assists pathologists with special procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques
• Routine techniques include: Fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining
• Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens
• Performs IHC, Special Stains
• Operates and troubleshoots departmental automation
• Assists in maintaining inventory at appropriate levels
• Accessions specimen upon arrival in Histology laboratory
• Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits
• Provides the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the Standards of Conduct
• Other duties as assigned that pertain to proper functioning of the histology lab

Required Qualifications :

Histotechnologist, HTL(ASCP) or Histotechnician, HT (ASCP) certifications required or must be eligible to sit for the exam. ASCP certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire

The expected pay for this position is listed below:

$25.92 - $32.40
