Job summary

Prime Healthcare’s Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine is seeking a Histotechnician for per diem day shifts in the Pathology department. You will prepare tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation, perform microtomy, embedding, and staining, and maintain histology equipment in adherence with department policies.

Requires HT/ASCP certification (or equivalent) and either 1 year hospital lab experience or the willingness to train; a current state license if required by your state may

Qualifications

• HT/ASCP Certification or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year hospital laboratory experience preferred but not required.
• Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation by the pathologist using microtomy, staining, histochemistry, and related techniques per department policy.
• Perform processing, cutting, embedding of tissue and body fluid samples.
• Conduct routine and special staining procedures.
• Apply immunohistochemical staining techniques if applicable to job duties.
• Operate and maintain histology equipment; keep manuals, logs and files current.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by department manager/director.
