Job summary

University of Arkansas at Fort Smith is seeking an Assistant Professor of History with Teacher Licensure. The department offers bachelor’s degrees in History, and History with Teacher Licensure, plus minors, supporting general education throughout the institution. The incumbent will teach 24 student credit hours over a 9-month contract year, starting August 9, 2027, reporting to the Department Head.

Ph.D. or ABD with a secondary education license is required; prior teaching at college and high

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in History or ABD on track to Ph.D. by start date; active secondary ed license in History or related field.
• Master's degree in History with a Ph.D. in a closely related field considered.
• Preferred: prior college and high school teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the History with Teacher Licensure program, including curriculum and faculty development.
• Instruct social studies secondary education courses, including teaching methods, practica, and in-school residencies.
• Assess and evaluate student learning within the program and contribute to program reviews.
• Assist with accreditation and external reviews and maintain documentation.
• Build positive relationships with area educators and partners.
• Teach other history courses in person and online as needed by department.
• Develop an active scholarly research agenda with peer-reviewed publications.
• Provide service to department, college, and university, including assessment and curricula development.
