The role is located at 2572 Lake Shore Road, Creswell, N.C. 27928.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Historical Interpreter I conducts interpretive programs, demonstrations, special events, and tours. Responsibilities include giving presentations, providing living history demonstrations, artifact management, research, clerical duties, operating gift shop, greeting visitors, site maintenance, and managing social media content and outreach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Visitor service and site interpretation: greeting visitors, tours, demonstrations, gift shop operation, inquiries.
  • Event planning: support for special events, setup, and cleanup.
  • Administrative duties: deposits, mailing, inventory, scheduling.
  • Site maintenance and social media management.
Physical and Schedule Requirements
  • Availability Tuesday–Saturday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with travel, nights, and weekends.
  • Ability to give tours, stand, walk, climb stairs, and talk for extended periods.
  • Lift 20 lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license required within 90 days of employment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED, plus two years of museum tour experience, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Knowledge of colonial/antebellum history, artifact management preferred.
