Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Natural and Cultural Resources seeks a Historic Site Manager III to oversee Bentonville Battlefield, a 2,100+ acre historic site with about 50,000 visitors annually. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, and direct interpretive programs and special events.

Responsibilities include preserving site features and artifacts, coordinating marketing, and engaging community partners to support the site’s mission and public programming.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in history or related field.
  • Two years of experience managing historic site operations.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to develop and implement events and educational programming.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of full-time staff, temporary staff, and volunteers.
  • Preservation of site features, historic buildings, and grounds.
  • Marketing and publicity planning for events and educational programming.
  • Research and compilation of documents; care of artifacts.
  • Budget and payroll; purchasing supplies and equipment; gift shop deposits.
  • Develop community support and work with local groups such as the Tourism Development Authority.
