Job summary

Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Williamsburg, VA seeks a working lead for the maintenance crew responsible for historic gardens and landscapes to the highest horticultural standards.

You will direct all assigned employees, manage planting, pruning, and soil management, and assist with budget and performance reporting. This essential role requires safety adherence and readiness for emergencies and special events.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/G.E.D., plus eight years’ experience with direct garden and landscape maintenance or a degree in a horticultural-related field and four years’ experience with direct garden and landscape maintenance.
• Foreman level experience in landscape and garden maintenance at large institutions.
• Strong knowledge of landscaping tools, equipment, and horticultural practices.
• Must possess or obtain within 90 days a Virginia Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate.
• Requires valid Virginia driver’s license and driving record.
• Must be able to provide a 5-year Motor Vehicle Record prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned employees, volunteers, and interns; assign work and oversee daily operations to meet goals.
• Lead daily team meetings to establish goals and provide directions.
