Job summary

The Histopathology technician at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Laboratory leads the Histology section, providing expert consultation, maintaining Histology functions, and recording workload with compliance in mind.

This role serves as the local expert in Histology and supports the pathology team in processing and testing specimens. Requirements include at least one year in a health care setting or equivalent education, English proficiency, and the ability to perform complex histology

Qualifications

• One year of experience in a health care field related to the work.
• English language proficiency in speaking and writing.

Responsibilities

• Receives all requests and specimens for testing in the laboratory.
• Embeds tissue in correct medium for sectioning; prepares specimens for processing.
• Performs frozen section preparations and correct orientation of tumors.
• Performs histology staining, including advanced staining techniques.
• Assists pathologists during gross description and processing; supports autopsy work.
• Trains staff on quality control, instrument maintenance, and accreditation requirements.
