Job summary

UF Health Jacksonville Hospital is seeking an experienced Histology Technician to process tissue for pathological diagnosis. You will perform fixation, embedding, cutting, staining, and labeling, and assist with immunohistochemistry and digital imaging.

The role includes preventative maintenance, quality control, and data management, with opportunities to train new staff. A Florida Histotechnologist license is required, with preferred national certification and 1–2 years of histology experience.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Preference for a Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
• Florida Histotechnologist License is required.
• National Certification preferred.
• 1–2 years of Histology experience; NAACLS program training or hospital histotech experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue by processing, fixation, embedding, cutting, staining, cover slipping and labeling for diagnosis.
• Perform immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, enzyme, histochemistry, gross dictation, and digital imaging.
• Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and troubleshoot problems.
• Maintain quality control and follow safety procedures in the lab.
• Maintain specimen file and data for statistical reporting; may work independently in special Histology.
• May assist in training new employees.
• Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory training.
• Adhere to dress code, core values, policies and confidentiality.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
