Job summary

Experience / Qualifications
  • State of Florida Technologist License is required.
  • ASCP certification is required.
  • 1 year of experience working in a clinical histology lab preferred.
  • Cognizant ability to correlate physician requests with specimen preparation and processing.
  • Precise hand to eye coordination and finger dexterity is necessary to perform procedures, obtain specimens and use electronic/computerized equipment.
Position Summary

This position will work in collaboration with department leadership to support the needs of the department.

  • Accessions specimens, embeds tissue, cuts blocks and makes slides.
  • Stains slides using routine special and immunohistochemical staining methods.
  • Maintains equipment.
  • Follows and documents quality control procedures.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees.
  • Remains current in technical knowledge and instrumentation.
  • Assists pathologists in various tasks.
  • Performs frozen sections.
  • May be required to cross train in other duties in the laboratory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.

Threshold Requirements
  • These threshold requirements are required and completed yearly basis.
  • Annual Joint Commission mandatory education requirements, in-service and health requirements including attendance at new employee orientation.
  • TB/PPD Surveillance Program
  • Maintenance of required professional licensing and/or certification(s).
