Position Summary

This position will work in collaboration with department leadership to support the needs of the department.

Responsibilities

• Embed, microtomy, and stain various tissue types: GI biopsies, FNA’s, breast cores, large surgical specimens, cell blocks, etc.
• Perform IHC and special stains using Dako/Agilent instruments.
• Assist physicians with bone marrow and renal biopsy collection.
• Maintain specimen integrity and chain‑of‑custody documentation.
• Enter data accurately into computer systems.
• Operate and maintain histology equipment and quality control records.
• Adhere to OSHA safety regulations, including Category I exposure to infectious diseases, and use appropriate protective equipment.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional societies.
• Serve as a resource for departments outside the laboratory.
• Foster cooperation between inter‑ and intra‑departmental workflows.
• Ensure a safe, clean working environment by following procedures and regulations.
• Protect patient and employee confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Sits up to 4 hours/day on a chair while doing paperwork.
• Walks up to 50 yards per day.
• Lifts 1–10 lbs from floor to counter level, PRN to replace reagents.
• Carries 1–10 lbs up to 50 yards, several times a day.
• Pushing 1–5 lbs 50 yards, several times a day.
• Squatting several times a day to reach cabinets, equipment.
• Twisting upper body 45°, 10 times/day.
• Rotating upper body 45°, 10 times/day.
• Reaching arms 1–3 feet, several times a day.
• OSHA exposure level Category I—Exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids; use appropriate protective equipment.

Must communicate with coworkers, supervisors and physicians and answer telephones. The environment is noisy and disruptive with frequent interruptions.
