Job summary

Memorial Hermann SW campus seeks a Histology Tech to join our team on Days. The schedule is 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This role is responsible for fixation, processing, cutting, mounting and staining of tissues for microscopic examination.

Qualifications include eligibility for ASCP certification (registered histotechnologist) and the ability to pass within one year of employment. The candidate will uphold safety, quality, and service standards while supporting department goals.

Qualifications

• Must be eligible for ASCP Histotechnologist certification and complete within 12 months.
• Experience or familiarity with fixation, processing, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissues.

Responsibilities

• Perform fixation, processing, cutting, mounting and staining of tissues for microscopic examination.
• Maintain and update histology procedures; ensure adherence to safety, quality, and policy standards.
• Participate in meetings and contribute to department goals; support ongoing education and training of staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: (None) Licenses/Certifications: Registered Histotechnologist (ASCP) or eligible for certification and pass within one (1) year of employment

Principal Accountabilities

Responsible for fixation, processing, cutting, mounting, and staining of tissues for microscopic examination. Gains and maintains functional knowledge of system computers as required by job assignment. Attends/conducts staff/organizational/educational meetings/in-services as assigned. Responsible for the oversight and performance of all histological procedures and associated corrective actions according to established policies and procedures. Evaluates and maintains technical procedures as appropriate to the department or facility. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
