Position Summary

This position is responsible for the receipt of biological specimens into the department, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and performing waived testing. The role reports to the department supervisor and may take direction from higher‑level technical personnel. It assists the coordinator and supervisor in the functional operation of the histology section, ensuring continuity of daily workflow, prioritizing work, training new employees, and maintaining and reporting quality control and quality assurance systems and procedure manuals. The position also solves technical problems and participates in research and development activities. In addition, the technician performs all essential functions as defined by the department, including carrying out waived and moderately complex tests as defined by CLIA ‘88 accurately and in a timely manner. The position may perform highly complex testing under general supervision and, under general supervision, act as a grossing processor taking direction from a Certified Pathologist Assistant. The technician receives, examines, and processes pathology specimens, and in the absence of the supervisor or coordinator provides overview support for the anatomic pathology section. The role performs all functions of an AP Laboratory Technician, may train employees on basic entry‑level tasks, performs QC/QA duties, and serves as a resource.

Ability to integrate the company’s mission, vision and values and customer service standards into daily activities. Must react and adjust to daily workflow requirements as assigned by the supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires an associate’s degree and be eligible for ASCP HT registry OR ASCP HT registry OR a bachelor’s degree with anatomic pathology departmental‑specific certification documentation within six months of hire date. Must be willing to perform/cross‑train in all areas of the anatomic pathology section and have demonstrated competency in all aspects of work. Must have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
