Job summary

Sonora Quest Laboratories is seeking a Cytology‑Ref Lab team member to receive samples and process for high‑complexity analysis under supervision. The role covers non‑Gyn specimen prep and supports regulatory compliance with CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP and OSHA.

Ideal candidates have strong interpersonal and computer skills, are detail oriented, and can manage workload in a fast‑paced laboratory environment. A High School diploma and relevant lab credentials are required or preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; military medical lab training acceptable.
• Associate’s degree with chemistry or biology credits or 3 years clinical lab experience in lieu of degree.
• MLT (ASCP) certification preferred or required.
• Strong reading, writing, and math abilities; attention to detail and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Receives Cytology samples and performs processing for high‑complexity analysis under CLIA ’88 guidelines.
• Performs all testing functions of a Level II employee and assists with non-Gyn specimen prep.

Position Summary

Receives Cytology samples and performs processing for high complexity analysis as defined by CLIA ‘88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Performs all essential functions of a Testing Level II employee, as defined by the department. In addition, is responsible for all aspects of Non Gyn specimen preparation and assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor. Performs well in the absence of a supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently. May be required to use material handling equipment to push/and or pull up to 75 pounds and required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Must use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and body fluids. Able to communicate effectively and comprehend written and oral instructions. Requires significant use of computer, phone and general office equipment. Able to perform instrumentation maintenance to include adequate ability to grasp and handle objects. Needs visual acuity and ability to adequately distinguish colors.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent and,
• Successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist OR,
• Associate’s degree in any field with 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credits OR,
• 20 hours of chemistry and/or biological sciences credit with three (3) year’s working in a clinical laboratory OR,
• MLT (ASCP)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related field.
• Applicable laboratory experience.
• Additional related education and/or experience.
