Job summary

UChicago Medicine is seeking a Histology Technician for the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory in the greater Chicagoland area. This 100% onsite role involves preparing and processing surgical, autopsy, and outreach tissue specimens to be examined by a pathologist.

Responsibilities include specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, staining (H&E, special stains, and IHC), quality control, and participation in training and accreditation activities. Full-time position with day shift, Tuesday–Saturday.

Qualifications

• At least one year of histology laboratory experience.
• Completion of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program or an Associate’s degree in related field.
• Must satisfy CLIA ’88 qualification requirements for high-complexity testing.

Responsibilities

• Ensure specimens meet acceptance criteria and track with LIS and documentation software.
• Perform maintenance of tissue processors, staining platforms, and ancillary equipment.
• Prepare tissues for microscopic study including processing, embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping.
• Prepare routine, special stains, and IHC solutions following procedures.
• Report results within required turn-around times and follow backup procedures during downtimes.
• Maintain inventory and participate in quality control and accreditation activities.
