Job summary

Antech Careers in New York is seeking a Histology Laboratory Technician to perform analyses, prepare samples and run tests. You will set up instruments, interpret results, and release findings with attention to quality and safety.

Responsibilities include embedding tissues, operating processors, scanning cassettes, QC and maintenance, while meeting production goals. Requires a HS diploma; B.S. in Biology/Life Sciences preferred; strong English and teamwork essential.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; B.S. in Biology or Life Sciences preferred.
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instruments.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipment.
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in English, enabling participation in team meetings, accurate data entry, and understanding of written directions.

Responsibilities

  • Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and adding Parafin wax
  • Provide quality embedding, accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour
  • Unload Tissue Processer
  • Scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklist
  • Maintain embedding station as required per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols
  • Meet minimum department production goals
  • Prioritize stat and manifest blocks
  • Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed
  • Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument
  • Perform manual stains as required
  • Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines
  • Exercise judgment in evaluating and reporting results
  • Report any technical/QC problems to lead tech or supervisor
  • Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures
  • Maintain clean and organized work area
  • Restock supplies as needed
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Work Shift: Wednesday to Sunday 1am to 9:30am Training Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 5:30pm

Target Pay: $27.31 an hour

Job Purpose

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required; B.S. in Biology or Life Sciences preferred.

Working Conditions

Stationary position – must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours. Constantly operate a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently. Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch; may be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. Ability to observe details at close range. Extended hours may be needed. Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE. Work under close to moderate supervision. Potential exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
