Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a Histology Technician Non-Certified for the Surgical Pathology Lab on a Flexi/PRN basis. You will perform routine tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and quality checks, supporting IHC and digital pathology initiatives.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, technical mastery, and collaboration with pathologists, with opportunities to grow in a high-standard diagnostic setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Currently eligible for certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) by the ASCP or a minimum of three (3) years applicable histology technical experience required.
• If certification eligible, must provide letter from ASCP proving eligibility to sit for certification exam.
• Students enrolled in an accredited Histology Technician associate degree program and have documented competence may be considered for employment.
• Students pursuing a Histologic Technician degree must obtain degree within nine (9) months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping.
• Conduct quality checks and support IHC, special stains, and digital pathology initiatives.
• Collaborate with pathologists and lab staff across routine and complex cases.
