Role Description The Histology Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in San Antonio, TX. This position is responsible for preparing, processing, embedding, and sectioning tissue specimens, as well as performing routine and special staining procedures to support diagnostic pathology services. Day-to-day activities include operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, labeling and organizing slides, verifying specimen integrity, and following established protocols to ensure accurate and timely results. The role also involves participating in quality control processes, documenting work in laboratory information systems, and collaborating with pathologists and other laboratory professionals to support patient care. The technician is expected to follow safety and regulatory standards, maintain a clean and orderly work environment, and contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory practices.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in histology techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
• Experience working in pathology or clinical laboratory settings with strong general laboratory skills and adherence to safety protocols.
• Knowledge of quality control procedures and regulatory standards applicable to histology and clinical laboratories.
• ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL), or eligibility and intent to obtain certification.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or related field, or completion of an accredited histotechnology training program.
• Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to work accurately with small specimens and delicate equipment.
• Effective communication skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and capacity to work collaboratively in a diverse team.
• Ability to manage time, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain performance in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
