Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a histology technician to perform a range of laboratory tests on tissue samples in a clinical laboratory setting. The role requires a histotechnology program completion and eligibility for ASCP certification, with non-exempt status and full-time hours.

Responsibilities include accessioning and preparing specimens, fixing and staining tissues, and maintaining equipment. A signing bonus may be available; a strong attention to safety, accuracy and timeliness is

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program.
ASCP Certification eligible.
Associates degree in a related field preferred.
ASCP certification HT preferred.
Minimum 1 year of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory.

Responsibilities

Follows protocols to perform tests and procedures in pathology lab.
Maintains laboratory organization and supplies in compliance with safety rules.
Accessioning, logging, and preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
Prepares tissue, performs fixation and staining for diagnosis.
Cleans, maintains and calibrates lab equipment; reads histographic maps.
Performs routine maintenance and participates in continuing education.
