Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a Lab Support Assistant for the Histology Lab in Boston, MA. This day shift role supports embedding center processes, prepares and QC slides for pathologists, and files slides for long-term storage.

The position involves handling blocks and slides and ensuring safe specimen transport and storage. Essential duties include entering specimen demographics and orders, labeling specimens, processing routine and STAT samples, and keeping the work area

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• Basic familiarity with computers.
• Laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enters specimen demographics and test orders into the computer. Adds tests, when requested, to the appropriate specimen type. Identifies and labels specimens according to protocol. Packages specimens safely for transport.
• Processes and aliquots specimens to meet service goals. Stores specimens in the appropriate location and maintains the integrity of the specimens at all times. Retrieves specimens for add-on and processes them for testing.
• Answers the telephone promptly and courteously.
• Maintains a clean and well-stocked work area.
