Job summary

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
• Basic knowledge of medical billing coding (preferred).
• Detail oriented with professional attitude and reliability.
• Strong organizational skills to support leadership.
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions with good grammar.
• Good interpersonal skills for customer service and teamwork.
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
• Basic to intermediate computer skills; MS Excel/Word/Outlook proficient.
• Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines and state/federal regulations.

Responsibilities

• Performs administrative duties and triages histologic specimens as part of the pathology workflow.
• Maintains patient files, requisitions, block slides, and ancillary testing paperwork.
• Receives specimens, verifies identification, and logs information in EMR.
• Sets up tissue for examination and documents specimen data consistently.
• Maintains lab files in numerical order and supports quality control.
• Assists in high-volume days with slide preparation, QC checks, and report correlation.
• Operates and maintains instruments per protocol; records performance and repairs.
• Prepares reagents and ensures proper storage; substitutes reagents as needed.
• Adheres to safety policies, OSHA regulations, and universal precautions.
• Assists in evaluating new procedures and equipment for potential adoption.
• Conducts equipment and reagent QC procedures and maintains records.
• Prepares slides with permanent labels and files appropriately.
• Supports high-quality service and customer care across the organization.
