Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma; required.
• A.A. degree or completion of 2 years of college coursework; highly desirable.
• Minimum of 1 year experience working in laboratory; preferred.
• Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel); required.
• Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required.
• Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required.
• ASCP Certification: encouraged.
• Strong interpersonal skills; required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates work flow of grossing and processing areas.
• Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
• Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
• Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
• Attends CARES training and ensures proper service recovery for patients/caregivers.
• Works as part of a team with Pathology and NMHS employees.
• Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Assures appropriate documentation of instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
• Assists with training of new employees; participates in continuing education.
