Job summary

TCH Medical Center is seeking a Histology Assistant to provide administrative and technical support for the surgical pathology and histology operation in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a high school diploma or related college/technical program coursework and at least 1 year of lab experience, with substitutions allowed as specified. You will handle specimen validation, QC, and daily instrument maintenance, while maintaining staining and filing systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or one year of post high school education in a college/technical program for laboratory science required.
• 1 year experience in a laboratory setting required; substitution option as described.

Responsibilities

• Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size and prioritizes workload according to handling protocols within established turnaround times.
• Performs quality control procedures according to written guidelines and documents on QC log sheets.
• Performs daily maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure proper instrument function.
• Maintains files for special stain and immunohistochemistry requests and for AP study sheets and filing systems for blocks and slides.
• Performs mandated reading assignments and signs off on manuals, logs, and memorandums promptly.
• Participates in proficiency testing programs to validate instruments and competency.
