Job summary

Firelands Health is seeking a Histologic Technologist for PRN varied hours to support surgical pathology and cytology services in an on-site setting in Ohio. The role emphasizes tissue processing, embedding, staining, and collaboration with pathologists.

A strong attention to detail and dexterity are required, with a focus on quality control and safety. Qualifications include an Associate’s Degree, HT/HTL (ASCP) certification, and CPR/BLS (preferred).

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent required; HT/HTL (ASCP) preferred.
• CPR/BLS certification preferred.
• Ability to be mobile and exhibit dexterity; ability to differentiate colors.
• Must read/write small letters and numbers with high attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Receives patient fluids. Performs appropriate procedure. Processes specimens for each type of cytology.
• Contacts/consults with appropriate personnel when difficulties are encountered in testing.
• Prepares tissues for examination by pathologist/pathologists’ assistant (log specimens in computer, label cassettes, etc.).
• Assists pathologist(s)/pathologists’ assistant in examining tissue for grossing and frozen section pieces and assists with fine needle aspirates.
• Properly embeds tissues and positions tissue in appropriate cassettes.
• Cuts tissue block, performs special stains and immunohistochemistry proficiently for evaluation by pathologist(s). Distributes slides to pathologist.
• Performs frozen sections for pathologist(s) proficiently, including freezing, cutting, and staining.
• Maintains supply inventory and submits timely requisitions for supplies.
