Job summary

Wellstar Health System seeks a Histologic Technologist to perform preparation of routine surgicals, autopsy tissues, and sendouts. Responsibilities include embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping, and cytology prep, with IHC and histochemistry duties.

The role requires attention to quality, regulatory knowledge, and ability to work under supervision. The candidate should have HT(ASCP) certification, a high school diploma or equivalent, and at least 1 year of histology experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; accredited Health Science program preferred.
• HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician or provisional within 2 years required.
• Minimum 1 year experience as a Histologic Technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Embed processed surgical tissue with quality and accuracy.
• Verify specimen block IDs match grossing reports.
• Cut and stain routine H&E slides; label slides with patient identifiers and attach reports.
• Check reports to ensure slides match dictation; deliver to pathologist.
• Perform recuts, histochemistry, and immunohistochemistry with instrument knowledge.
• Verify all IHC and histochemistry stains work as expected.
• Distribute completed test orders to the pathologist.
• Maintain sound departmental judgment; work independently when needed.
