Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a Histologic Technician II - Anatomic Pathology at the Winston Campus. This PRN role emphasizes embedding and microtomy with strict adherence to lab protocols and patient specimen handling.

The ideal candidate will hold an associate degree in applied science (or equivalent) with two years of eligible training, plus preferred HT (ASCP) certification and 3 years' histology lab experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in applied science or high school diploma with two years training as defined by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the National Society of Histotechnology.
• Three years' experience in a clinical histology lab preferred.
• HT (ASCP) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to hospital standards and promotes a cooperative work environment through effective communication and teamwork.
• Ensures accurate accessioning, labeling and billing of specimens according to departmental practices.
• Performs accurate processing and staining of specimens and ensures quality in identification procedures.
• Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
• Completes additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
• Pursues self-study and continuing education to improve skills.
• Contributes to smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Follows policies to prevent spread of bloodborne and airborne diseases.

Education/Experience/Certifications To Qualify

Essential Functions

• Assures accurate and timely processing and staining of specimens, according to departmental practices.
• Provides maximum care in identification procedures when processing patient specimens.
• Performs special stains and/or enzyme histochemical stains.
• Performs additional Anatomic Pathology Department laboratory procedures.
• Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
• Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
• Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
• Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
