Job summary

Skin and Aesthetics Center in Burnsville, MN seeks a Mohs Histotechnician to process Mohs tissue, prepare and stain frozen sections, and deliver high-quality slides for margin assessment. You will work directly with the Mohs surgeon to maintain accurate specimen maps and documentation in the EHR.

The ideal candidate has histotechnology training, at least one year of frozen section experience, and CLIA-compliant lab practice. BLS certification and ASCP HT/HTL are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a histotechnology training program or equivalent hands-on frozen section experience
• Minimum of one year of experience cutting frozen sections on a cryostat
• Current BLS certification
• HT or HTL (ASCP) certification strongly preferred
• Experience with H&E and immunohistochemical staining of frozen sections
• Proficiency with EHR systems; EMA/ModMed experience a plus

Responsibilities

• Receive, orient, ink, and map Mohs tissue specimens from the surgeon
• Embed and freeze tissue, cut high-quality frozen sections on the cryostat, and mount and stain slides
• Deliver slides to the Mohs surgeon promptly and re-cut or re-stain as needed
• Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot the cryostat, stainers, and other lab equipment
• Prepare, label, and store reagents and stains; monitor inventory and reorder lab supplies
• Perform and document daily quality control, proficiency testing, and equipment checks in compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and practice policy
• Maintain accurate specimen logs, slide records, and laboratory documentation in the EHR and lab records
• Handle, dispose of, and document hazardous chemicals and biohazard waste
• Support the surgical team with room turnover, specimen transport, and patient flow on Mohs days
• Deliver a concierge-level patient experience from start to finish
• Other duties as assigned to support clinical operations and consistent with the responsibilities of the role
