American College of Mohs Surgery in Fort Worth, TX seeks a Mohs Histotechnician with 2-5 years of frozen section histology experience, capable of processing 16-18 Mohs cases in a 10-hour shift. This on-site role requires meticulous specimen processing, operation of cryostat and microtome, and strict adherence to HIPAA/CLIA/OSHA.

Applicants should have a High School diploma, Histotech training (ASMH preferred), and be able to commute or relocate to Fort Worth.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Formal Histotech/Mohs training preferred (ASMH).
  • Minimum 5 years in frozen section histology.
  • Ability to process up to 10 Mohs cases in 4 hours.
  • Strong HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Mohs Laboratory Operations: perform histopathological procedures with precision.
  • Embed specimens with correct orientation and freeze for sectioning.
  • Operate cryostat and microtome for tissue sections.
  • Label and store specimen blocks and slides accurately.
  • Conduct routine H&E staining and evaluate staining quality.
  • Prepare and mount slides with cover slips.
  • Maintain and service laboratory instruments per protocols.
  • Document maintenance and quality control data.
  • Prepare and store reagents according to protocol.
  • Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Log and file slides and records to ensure organization.

Job description

Overview:

We are a high-volume surgical dermatology practice seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mohs Histotechnician with a 2-5 years of experience in frozen section histology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in processing up to 16-18 Mohs cases within a 10 hour period.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Mohs Laboratory Operations:
  • Perform specialized histopathological procedures with precision and efficiency
  • Embed specimens with correct orientation and freeze appropriately for optimal sectioning
  • Operate cryostat and microtome to produce high-quality representative tissue sections
  • Accurately label and store specimen blocks and slides
  • Conduct routine H&E staining and evaluate staining quality
  • Hand cover-slip slides using appropriate mounting medium
  • Instrumentation & Maintenance:
  • Maintain and service laboratory instruments per established protocols
  • Monitor instrument performance and troubleshoot malfunctions
  • Document maintenance and quality control data
  • Reagent Preparation & Safety Compliance:
  • Prepare and store reagents according to protocol
  • Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations
  • Follow universal precautions and proper biohazard handling procedures
  • General Laboratory Duties:
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
  • Log and file slides and records accurately
  • Support a culture of quality, safety, and excellent patient care
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Formal Histotech/Mohs training (e.g., ASMH certification) preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in frozen section histology
  • Proven ability to process up to 10 Mohs cases in a 4-hour period
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA guidelines
