Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to neonates in the NICU with assessments and monitoring.
• Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, following aseptic techniques.
• Operate and monitor ventilators and neonatal monitors to stabilize patients.
• Perform neonatal resuscitation and manage emergencies including pain and airway care.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for diagnostics, labs, and imaging.
• Document patient care in EHR systems in compliance with HIPAA.
• Educate families on neonatal care, discharge plans, and developmental support.
• Engage in quality improvement and infection control initiatives per NCQA standards.
• Assist in procedures such as catheterization, suturing, or tube feeding when needed.
• Support long-term care planning post-discharge.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This vital role involves providing comprehensive, compassionate care to critically ill newborns and their families, ensuring optimal health outcomes through expert clinical practices. Duties

Provide direct nursing care to neonates in the NICU, including assessment, monitoring vital signs, and implementing individualized care plans aligned with physicians’ orders.
Administer medications, including IV infusions and injections, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
Utilize advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, neonatal ventilators, and monitors to support respiratory and cardiovascular stability.
Perform neonatal resuscitation procedures and respond promptly to emergencies, including acute pain management and airway management.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for diagnostic evaluations, laboratory testing, and imaging procedures like sonography or CT scans.
Maintain meticulous medical documentation within electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems), ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Educate families on neonatal care practices, discharge planning, and developmental support strategies tailored for infants with special needs or developmental disabilities.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and infection control protocols.
Assist in complex procedures such as catheterization, suturing, or gastrostomy tube feeding when necessary.
Support long-term care planning for infants requiring ongoing medical or developmental support post-discharge.

Qualifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) with valid certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Minimum of three years of nursing experience in neonatal intensive care units or pediatric critical care settings; experience working within Level I or Level II trauma centers is preferred.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; familiarity with Epic is advantageous.
Strong knowledge of neonatal physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to NICU patients.
Experience administering complex medication regimens including botulinum toxin treatments or pain management protocols for neonates.
Ability to perform specialized procedures such as IV insertion, venipuncture, tube feeding management, and sterile dressing changes.
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and family education efforts.
Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and neonatal ventilator management is essential.
Additional certifications in trauma medicine, infectious disease care, or pediatric advanced life support (PALS) are highly desirable.
