Job summary

The Outreach Team in Des Moines, IA is hiring Community Canvassers and Team Leaders to engage voters on the ground through door-to-door outreach. Roles include delivering campaign messages, collecting survey responses, and training new canvassers.

Open to full-time or part-time positions, with shifts 11 AM–6:30 PM Tue–Sun; starting pay is $22 for can canvassers and $23 for team leads, plus bonuses and overtime. Eligible to work in the US.

Qualifications

• Passionate about progressive politics and fostering democracy
• Strong communication skills; you should enjoy talking with other people and be willing and excited to speak with everyone
• Hard worker who will stay motivated to engage as many people as possible
• Open to new challenges and are interested in building their campaign skills
• Culturally competent and able to respectfully engage with teammates and the community
• Prior canvassing experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Engage with the public in a friendly and respectful manner
• Deliver a compelling campaign message, and collect complete survey answers from voters
• Participate in staff training to improve outreach skills
• Follow the campaign's safety protocols
• The Canvasser Responsibilities plus:
• Manage a small group of canvassers out in the field by checking in with them periodically throughout the day, and debriefing with them at the end of the day
• Ensure each canvasser has all of the materials they need to be successful
• Assist directors with canvasser training and administrative work

Grassroots efforts are ramping up and we are looking for a team of canvassers to help us reach voters who deserve a voice in this election. From now through Election Day, our team is connecting directly with voters on the ground through door-to-door outreach. We will be supporting candidates who champion progressive values and our shared vision for the future, encouraging people to get out and vote for progressive leaders down the ticket.

This role is a great opportunity to gain experience in the following areas: Leadership, Communication & Advocacy, Community Outreach & Engagement, Campaign Work, Public Policy, and Social Enterprise.

Get paid well! Canvassing positions start at $22/hour. Team Lead positions start at $23/hour. We offer overtime pay, driver bonuses, shift bonuses, paid training, sick pay, and bonuses for friend referrals.
