Job summary

DESC in Seattle, WA seeks a HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer to join the Quality & Information Management team. Lead privacy and information security programs, ensure HIPAA compliance, and support program management in meeting regulatory and contract requirements.

The role requires experience in nonprofit/healthcare/compliance, supervisory responsibilities, and the ability to implement training and policies across the agency.

Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant experience in a non-profit, healthcare, or government agency.
• 3–5 years related regulatory or compliance experience with ability to analyze, write and translate technical information into action plans.
• Familiarity with Physical/Behavioral Health, Supportive Housing and Shelter systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work, prioritize, and work under pressure.
• Experience safeguarding confidential and proprietary information.

Responsibilities

• Oversee HIPAA and privacy programs and train staff on HIPAA rules.
• Serve as the HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer and HMIS Security Officer.
• Supervise HIM Technician and ensure compliant record releases.
• Develop forms, policies, and procedures complying with privacy/security regulations.
• Communicate regulation changes to staff and stakeholders.
• Draft, execute, and oversee BAAs with external entities and support audits.
• Develop agency-wide privacy training and archive systems.
