Job summary

The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) seeks a Medical Records professional for CMHIP to manage HIPAA risk assessments, chart abstraction, and release of information. Duties include BEHR-based scanning, chart audits, and collaboration with HIPAA Privacy & Security officers.

Two years of hospital medical records experience and familiarity with HIPAA regulations are required, with preferred RHIT/RHIA/CHP credentials and utilization review exposure.

Qualifications

• Two years of Medical Records experience in a hospital setting managing the HIPAA process.
• Education in Information Management or certification in HIPAA, and/or relevant hospital experience (2 years).
• Preference for RHIT/RHIA/CHP or related certifications and experience with utilization review and release of information processes.

Responsibilities

• Independently releases patient information to requesters per HIPAA regulations.
• Abstracts data from charts for reporting to CMS, Joint Commission, and ORYX.
• Scans and indexes documents in the BEHR system with accuracy and proper chart association.
• Obtains third‑party payer authorizations and manages related documentation.
