Job summary

Encompass Health is seeking a HIMS Technician to compile, process, and maintain patient records in accordance with healthcare requirements. This role supports our nationwide inpatient rehabilitation network and emphasizes growth opportunities and a patient‑centered approach.

Ideal candidates will have RHIT preferred, strong knowledge of medical terminology, and data entry experience; a high school diploma and college‑level education are preferred.

Qualifications

• RHIT preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited college or university.
• Medical Record Technology College or vocational school preferred.
• Minimum three years of hospital HIMS experience preferred in lieu of certification.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• One year data entry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains delinquent records at less than 50% of the average discharge rate.
• Monitors staff deficiencies and assures all IRF-PAI data elements are completed.
• Completes physician and staff deficiency checklists.
• Performs final checks of medical records before designating records complete.
• Abstracts discharge date for PATCOM system for all discharged inpatients.
• Accurately completes data entry of all PATCOM HIMS data.
• Monitors and corrects errors on daily exception reports.
